Anyone feel the need to be MOD? | Sun Apr 18, 2010 6:14 pm by meanwood_monks | Been thinking about this for a while now.
Some of you guys/gals have been here since day 1. Cheers for all your support over this time.
Was wondering if anyone was wanting to keep an eye on things and have MOD rights here.

| Its that time again!
Too many people just browsing not enough input and socializing. Sounds harsh but yet again I dont want the wrong sort of people getting this information about places. If we dont know who you are then we cant judge why your here. I dont want this forum to be the same as all the other urbex forums out there, with thousands of members and information available to every joey out there. The more people that know about these sort of places means, the higher likelihood of the wrong sorts getting access to " Raw materials " and ruining these places forever.
Please post your view on this

| I agree If the wrong people get into these places then it will make it difficult for the right people to explore and document. | |

| I understand completely. It would be a shame for some of these great sites to be trashed even further from information leaked into the wrong hands. How do you propose to prevent it? (I'm not exactly sure what you mean by 'member sort out') | |

| Nice to see some people understand where we're coming from on this one.
Going to give people a good few days to respond before I start the clear out of inactive members.

| Hi
It would be great if you could keep me in. Pretty well as soon as I signed up, I started working away from home with limited computer access. I'll be back very soon, and have some photos to scan and upload.
Thanks

| Hi MM, not sure how many people contribute, post reports, say hi to new members etc but i'm pretty sure freebird (my other half) & my self do our fair bit? I certainly think if people just join up but don't contribute in the areas i've mentioned above then it should be made clear to them that it is a requirement of being a member to contribute to the community element that exists in forums? I know Urbex Leeds isn't the biggest of forums but it has a vital role with/for local explorers with their knowledge of local sites/problems/assistance. If members after being notified continue to offer no suitable involvement then their wasting their time (& yours!) being a member & you should maybe consider removing them or limiting what they can access? Cheers. | |

| Indeed, this is not a personal attack on anyone person or so. "UL Members" are mainly active and wont be removed. It simply people that have joined and never introduced themselves or have become inactive over time. Like I say its simply to stop people who have no input, being a possible hazard to the community and locations. Thanks for all your input so far.
Mentioned above was to do with restricting peoples access to the forums. In the security update we did last year this was implemented, and people who join up can not see the majority of the sections until they have been included into the "UL Members" group. This is done by them requesting to be in the group or being added by myself or "urbexem". Simply to stop people joining and just browsing.
It all sounds a harsh and a bit like im being a twat, sorry if thats the case. Just simply trying to keep these forums rolling and alive. So many UE forums have popped up over the past year or so and not a lot have survived, this is more localized and I feel could hold out as Leeds and the Yorkshire area has a lot of interesting places and people.

| I've always liked UL, and like the place it has in Forumland. It's always a bit difficult to know what to think. Joining a forum is a big deal (for me) so I like to join ones which have a lot of members, as that way I can keep a low profile as I gain in confidence to post something relevent. However it is always loads better if you contribute, even with the odd "Nice pictures mate" etc. Not everyone is in a position/wants to go out and explore but everyone can usually make some contibution. We don't have any more right to go to these buildings as the tagger, the smackhead or the pikies, but any steps to keep them out is good in my book. I don't really know what the answer is. Leeds and Yorkshire deserves it's own forum, just like the Midlands, NW and NE have theirs, so definitely worth keeping going in my opinion. Sorry to have been of little help. | |

| Fully understand were your coming from i'm a bit of an outsider coming from Gateshead though i do come down to Leeds area about 2 or 3 times a year and have put up a couple of reports but not much recently feel free to kick me out though i do intend to keep up the visits this year and get some reports in tbh i could put in a stack of reports but it seems pointless if its not in the Leeds and surrounding area. | |

| Hi there, It makes really good sense for you to be careful about this, I am sorry for not having made a contribution but my camera is knackered at present (wasn't anything to get excited about in the first place!)
However I think it is good to remind people to make contributions, I would really like to stay in the forum if it's ok- I find it fascinating and will promise to give myself a kick up the backside to do some posts of my own!

| Id like to also point out that contributing to the forum isn't just about posting explores I've noticed a few of you have said you haven't been out or your camera broke... Well post in the chit chat.... Scout for new locations they're is always something to talk about on here and being active doesn't mean just posting a report. Comment on a fellow explorers report and tell them what you think... Its only polite.... | |

| Thanks to everyone replying and for all your comments. Just to let you all know im going to sort through the members list sometime monday/tuesday night. Hopefully get it all sorted in one go. Adding people to groups, sectioning of certain areas of the forum off to certain groups. Once done if your account was deleted and you disagree simply sign back up and PM myself or UrbexEm stating your old username and we'll sort things out. Im not perfect and im sure Ill make a mistake or two. If I do I apologize. | |

| I also agree with squasher. As exploring is becoming more and more popular and with idiots who completely miss the point going to the papers with a few shoddy pics of themselves trespassing, its not surprising that forums are being flooded with the wrong kind of people. Look at the High Royds lead thieves who wrecked the place, the knobs who grossly disrespected the morgue.
To second what someone already said, this might not be the biggest and most active forum but to coin an old phrase....Its about quality, not quantity.
Google any well documented urbex location and you're linked straight away to 28DL with all manner of information freely available to anyone with a computer.
